Floc has achieved an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), becoming the first solely wool-based building product in Aotearoa to do so. It’s a milestone that we believes will reshape how sustainability is defined in the design industry and challenge the wave of greenwashing in commercial interiors.

Interiors lined with Floc panels feel good. They dramatically improve the acoustics of any interior space by muting background noise, and reducing tiring, headache inducing echoes and reverberations. Wool’s natural filtration ability also contributes to improved air quality.

New Zealand made and globally endorsed. We’re proud to not only hold an EPD, but also display the Declare Label, and NZ Fernmark. The Fernmark is only awarded to clean, green, innovative New Zealand products.

Embodied energy is quoted as 106 MJ/kg for wool.

Impact of extraction

Wool is a natural, sustainable product.The full carbon LCA is being investigated in New Zealand. More information will be released around this shortly.

Strong-wool is readily available throughout New Zealand. Strong-wool is a by-product of the shearing process which happens annually for animal welfare.

Material Sourcing

Floc is born, grown and manufactured in New Zealand from 100% New Zealand strong-wool.

Wool is grown on sheep that roam freely in their natural environment, needing only sunshine and grass to prosper.

Performance

Floc Panels will degrade and are fully compostable at the end of life.

Medium- will require regular cleaning.

Benefits of Wool

Unlike synthetic man-made fibres made from unsustainable and non-renewable resources such as oil, gas and coal, wool is 100% naturally grown.

Sheep grow a new fleece every year creating a totally renewable fibre. Shearing is considered a welfare practice for stock.

Odour resistant

Wool is naturally odour resistant.

Wool is a durable, resilient fibre that is resistant to moisture, stains and compression.

VOC’s are harmful chemicals that vaporise in the air causing indoor air pollution.

Wool has the natural ability to absorb harmful chemicals such as strong smelling colourless gases from the indoor atmosphere. The VOC emissions are incredibly low. Testing available upon request.

Integrity

Carbon is the cornerstone of life on earth. When you invest in wool, you are investing in life, and the recycling of life.

Sheep consume biogenic carbon when they eat the grass they live on. 40% of the weight of wool is made of carbon which readily biodegrades at the end of its life, and returns to the earths soil where it will be recycled into the next life.

New Zealand sheep farmers comply with some of the highest land and environmental standards in the world.

NZFAP is the recognised foundation upon which the collective red meat and wool industry delivers an authentic and independently verified production assurance standard to customers and consumers. It includes assurances in regards to integrity, traceability, bio-security, food safety, environmental sustainability and animal health and welfare.

Floc wool is sourced from farms associated with the New Zealand Farm Assurance Programme (NZFAP).

NZFAP is the recognised foundation upon which the collective red meat and wool industry delivers an authentic and independently verified production assurance standard to customers and consumers. It includes assurances in regards to integrity, traceability, bio-security, food safety, environmental sustainability and animal health and welfare.

Sustainable
and renewable

Strong-wool is the 100% natural product of the shearing of New Zealand sheep, which is done at least once a year, depending on where the sheep live. Shearing is done to maintain their health and welfare, as well as to harvest their fleeces.

Biodegradable
and compostable

Floc is fully biodegradable and compostable. To support this benefit an Environmental Product Declaration is imminent. EPDs are like an ISO Type 3 certification, and give you an independent verification of a product’s environmental credentials.
